Dear Parents:
It is with pleasure to have your child in my Business/Technology Applications class for this school year. In this rapidly changing technological society, our young people must be provided with the most recent information and taught the basic knowledge, skills and applications in order to succeed in this technology driven world.
The goals of Keyboarding are to teach students to:
Develop Basic Keyboarding Skills that include;
fluent manipulation of letter, figure, symbol, and basic service keys by “touch”
computer controlled drills to develop maximum skill in minimum time
progression aids that promote skill growth and ensures a reliable measurement of accuracy
The goals of Technology Applications are to teach students to:
Develop the above skills as well as formatting skills that include;
arranging, placing and spacing copy
producing documents such as letters, memos, reports, tables, forms, resumes, etc.
developing information processing skills; this combine keying and formatting skills with document planning, designing and language skills including proofing.
Students will be expected to:
Come to class prepared (planner, notebook, pens/pencils) and on time
Complete all classroom and homework assignments
Obey all SMS Guiding Principles and classroom rules
Show respect for the instructor, peers, themselves, and subs at all times
Maintain SMS equipment during their use
Report any equipment malfunctions immediately
Follow directions the first time
Maintain the cleanliness of their area

The bell does not dismiss, wait for the teacher to dismiss you
The following grading scale will be used to evaluate your child’s performance:
A = 90 – 100
B = 80 – 89
C = 70 – 79
D = 60 – 69
Students are expected to have all supplies suggested by grade levels and a notebook to be used for this class. A folder with prongs and pockets may be best utilized for this class; students will take a lot of notes and receive handouts as well.
Students are to be seated in their assigned seat when the tardy bell rings
Refrain from bringing food/drinks in the classroom (water bottles permitted, but not around computers)
Use appropriate language at all times
Refrain from talking while the teacher or peers are speaking
Raise your hand to be recognized
Leave area neat and clean and chair pushed in when dismissed
Remain seated until teacher dismisses class
1st Offense: Verbal Warning, Name on Board
2nd Offense: Check, 10 minutes loss of recess
3rd Offense: Check, 20 minutes loss of recess
4th Offense: Conference with Teacher
5th Offense: Referral to Grade Level Chair
Severe disruption or disrespect will result in immediate removal from class and referral to administration. NO EXCEPTIONS due to safety issues in this lab setting.
